Technology

The shape, design, material and technology. All these attributes are in harmony with our boards. We design the shape with regard to the technology used. The technology is determined by the properties of the material. And design is made up of shape and material. The circle is closing, everything together must form one meaningful whole and that is the Café board. 15 years of experience in product design, 10 years of experience with woodwork and a passion for water sports allow us to design and create products that make sense in terms of use, durability and respect for nature.

CORE

Everything starts in CAD, where the shape is carefully designed with regard to riding characteristics and the possibilities of production technology. The core is then laser-cut into a paulownia edge glued board. Unlike common composite paddleboards, the core is not made of polystyrene, but of air and wooden ribs. Such a core weighs about half of that of polystyrene. Thanks to this, the saved weight is transferred to the skin, which has a positive effect on the overall durability and stiffness.

SKIN

The ribbing is entirely covered in paulownia wood. Places under more stress are reinforced with fiberglass and epoxy resin. Such a structure is very strong and rigid even before the entire board is laminated. Final fiberglass  layer with resin only has the function of sealing the board against water. The strength is largely due to the wooden structure.

PAULOWNIA

We mainly use paulownia wood for the construction of paddleboards. Due to its excellent properties, this tree species is predicted to have a significant future. The ratio of strength and weight ranks paulownia among the best woods in the world. The tree itself enriches the soil with nitrogen, prevents erosion with its roots and, last but not least, is a fast-growing and therefore easily renewable natural material.

DECK

In order not to lose contact with wood, we preferably use natural materials such as cork or wood veneer on the deck. However, if you are used to EVA foam, you can also have it on the Café board.
